Top 2024 holiday gift trends for dogs and cats

It’s that time of year again! And as the winter festive season takes off, of course you want your furry bestie to feel included in all your celebrations.  But just as it can be a little stressful at times to plan holiday gifts and experiences for your human loved ones, it can also be overwhelming to figure out how to do the same for your beloved pet family members.  Which is why we’ve got your back and put together an easy guide with all the ideas you’ll need to make sure your pets have the best holiday ever.

Special occasions require special outfits … for the whole family

From ugly (read: comfy!) sweaters to more dressy attire, of course you’ve got outfit plans for everything from cuddles at home as the snow falls, to special — perhaps fancier — dinners and parties. And depending on your pet’s preference, they may also want to get in on the dress-up fun. Of course, every dog or cat has their own particular feelings about donning extra layers. Fortunately, there’s an option for everyone.

  • If your pet doesn’t care for full-body outfits, we recommend testing out how they react to festive and comfortable accessories, such as scarves, collars and bow ties.

  • BUT, if they’re down to embrace full outfits, we recommend choosing festive PJs for more casual, at-home celebrations and comfy sweaters when you’re heading outside that will keep them both warm and included in the holiday spirit

Of course, we can’t forget about gifts

When everyone else is unwrapping their gifts or digging through their holiday stocking, you don’t want your pet to miss out on the fun.  Which is why special festive pet stockings for furry family members are becoming more and more popular. What can you stuff them with, you might ask? Some trending ideas include:

  • Multi-pack dog toys so there’s a few fun things for them to find, such as plush toys with or without squeakers, ropes for games of tug or toss and more

  • If you’d rather pick and choose a few specific gifts you know your dog will especially love, you can also pick and choose individual toys to include in their stocking. Say, some treats, a plush toy, a vinyl toy and a dental toy?

  • And the same goes for cats too — in their stocking some favourites to include are a plush toy, teaser wand, cat nip and/or scratchers.

And finally, make sure your pet gets a special holiday meal (and treats!) too

No festive season is complete without some tasty eats. And while you’re enjoying your holiday meal(s), your dog will be overjoyed if they get something special in their food bowl too. Some of the top festive meals we’ve seen pet families choose include:

  • The Turducken Banquet — which is only available during the festive season — is exactly what it sounds like. A feast of three holiday favourites: turkey, duck and chicken.

  • For dogs who prefer a more straightforward (but equally delicious!) holiday meal you could go for a raw or gently cooked Turkey Dinner.

  • To add some excitement to their regular kibble during the holiday season, you could also top your dog’s meals with Bison, Lamb or Salmon sprinkles

In between meals — perhaps when you’re enjoying a festive gingerbread or shortbread cookie — it’s also a nice idea to share an extra special treat with your pet. (You can also add some treats to their stocking!). Grab some holiday themed treats or other popular favourites like:

  • Tuna, salmon, chicken, shrimp or snapper cat lickables. Whichever flavour your — possibly picky — cat prefers

  • Long-lasting treats like beef bully sticks (which have the added benefit of being great for your pet’s teeth, as well as tasty) for your dog

  • Other popular dog treats like cheese puffs, meaty sticks or beef lung tenders
